Congrats!!

Well, the results from the comp were up yesterday I guess -- I looked on the Rock Comps website but didn't see anything. However they are there now.

Congrats to Vince for getting first place in the Men's Advanced and to Rachel for getting first place in Girl's. They got 676 and 90 points respectively.

And to top it off, I won a Marmot Pack in the raffle they had. w00p!

Climbed hard tonight. Almost got a V3 that I've been working on now for two nights. Will probably get it tomorrow. Elbows hurt tho. I did manage to get up a V1 tho -- I know, I know, a measly V1. But you should have seen this thing. It was a MONSTER!! It was supposed to be a warm up. It's more like a long route that is as long as a roped climb. Also got on my first V4 -- it looked doable. Maybe when I'm a little fresher.

Anywase, if you are here looking for images they are linked in the entry below!

Enjoy

Vertex Bouldering Comp

Jason and I went and watched the climbing competition at Vertex yesterday. It was kick-ass. Nothing like watching all ranges of climbers just having fun to remind you why we climb. They had damn Good climbers all the way down to the young kids competing. It was tremendously fun to watch!

I took my camera along and Jason took his video camera. We'll put something together over the next couple weeks and offer it up for all to enjoy.

For better or worse, I uploaded all images from my camera. I figured I'd let the peoples at Vertex know so they could look 'em over and see if they wanted any for their website. Once they have done that I'll go through and make just one album out of the better pictures that are out there. For now, you can browse the images at:
Album 1
Album 2

As soon as I know more about the results I'll post 'em. They were still adding them up (by hand!! Don't they know thats what computers are for?!?) and expected to be doing that for another half hour last night.

However I had other plans for last night. Chris and Gretchen had come up to visit and go have sushi at Leo's. It was way nummy and a great way to finish out a fun day!

I'll keep ya all posted as to what we're doing with the video. for the comp!
w00p!

Bad Bad Rubber Computer

Okay.
I'm sick of computers already.
I've only been at work for an hour and a half.

My normal work computer decided to upchuck today. What's that mean in english? I came in to work and my computer was going through an endless cycle of boot, start loading windows, blue screen, reboot. I couldn't even get into safe mode! And the blue screen was useless information -- simply stating "catastrophic hardware failure" followed by a stack dump.

I did notice that the HD made quite a loud clicking sound either right before or right after the error -- I'm hoping it was before. I grabbed an extra (but slower) 20gb hd and am in the process of backing up data off that HD (I plugged it in as the secondary ide hd on another machine) while reloading XP on my machine.

*ugh*

To top that off we have a build tomorrow -- only it ain't goin so well the day before (well as of yesterday it wasn't going well). Cathy leaves on a demo tomorrow so we're under the normal last minute bullshit crunch for that, and I heard something about an emergency on the AOL site yesterday afternoon that is supposed to get posted ASAP.

Oh well -- enough of my complaining.
How's everyone else?

Good Bouldering Routes!

Missy went off to go to a Sharks game tonight so I'm fending for myself tonight.

Had pasghetti tonight for dinner. It was good. Used some of Missy's pasghetti sauce nad it was just way nummy!

Went climbing after that. Vertex, the gym that I climb at, is having a bouldering comp this weekend so they had pulled ALL the bouldering routes down yesterday. They had set somewhere between 5 and 10 routes. Not many -- but they were all VERY good climbs. I started with a quick traverse (well two of them) to warm up. Then moved on to the new routes.

I started with the two V0's and a climb just rated V. They were good climbs. So I moved on to the V1's -- there were quite a few of these. I think there were 4. I flashed those and then moved on to the V2's. There were three of those (?) -- only one was really hard -- the other two felt like V1+'s. Then it was on to the only V3 set.

Now this one was hard. Just out and out hard. I worked the beginning, then the middle, then the end. It went -- it just went hard. I got the beginning down farely well. In fact the guy who had set it (he mentioned his name which I of course promptly forgot) said that he like my hand work much better -- fewer moves -- saving energy.

I worked the problem and managed to get the top part but it was just so much work! The guy who set it gave me some beta about a couple of the moves -- there was a great heel-hook that saved tons of energy in the steep overhanging section. I managed to do that move and get to the end with energy to spare so I sat down for a bit and then hopped back on it. This time from the beginning.

Up I went -- move after move -- hands here, feet there. Left hand up, right hand up, feet up. Left hand up, heel-hook -- whats that? Cramp in the calf?? No way man -- I'm not letting that stop me. Up and over the lip -- up to the sloper holds. Okay -- now last move -- I can get it! I swing up to the top and my fingers curl over the edge -- but I'm not high enough -- I fall to the floor (well, actually onto the mat, but thats close enough).

Dammit!! I was pissed. I had 10 minutes left before they closed up. I went and drank some water and sat down for about 3 minutes and decided to give it one more go before the evening was over.

I'm feeling a little rushed as I hop on the route. The beginning is a bitch -- in fact the entire route is a bitch. But the first move is from a sit start and those are always harder -- and up to a little pincher hold -- *ugh*. I make the first moves very fast and take some deep breaths to slow myself down. I don't want to pop off the moves coming up. I get the footwork correct this time -- saving arm strength by using my feet wisely.

I get up to the small teeny tiny edgy hold and stick it -- then bump up to the sloper. I bump with my right hand to avoid having to match on the sloper -- especially since the next hold is another sloper that I *do* have to match on. I stick the first sloper, get my left hand up to the next sloper. My feet stick on the holds -- better then the previous time where they popped off, again wasting valuable arm strength.

The last move is a big swingy move up to the top. Froma sloper. And a screw on for one foot. You know what that means? That means that our good rule of thumb, keeping three points of contact on the wall at all times, gets thrown out the window. I flag a foot under me, get way under the sloper, swing once, decide I wouldn't make it so I get back down low again. Swing twice, right hand goes flying out, and *BAM* -- I hit it. I stuck it. I got up to the top without falling. w000000p

Nywase, not much else was new tonight. I updated oldbrowsers.org a bit more -- started my browser history section. This section will probably go under many revisions -- right now I'm still in the fact gathering/layout phase. Check out the beginnings of the history page! The link (as usual) is:
http://oldbrowsers.org/oldbrowsers/

And last but not least! Big thanks to Rachel and Terry for the way kewl shirt!! Yes, I guess you could call me a Ricky Rock Rat (I looked for images online but couldn't find any so ya'll will have to wait for me to be wearing it and have the camera around!!).

Enjoy!

OldBrowser.org Build 4

Got an new version of oldbrowsers.org uploaded. Added the voting component (had to rewrite part of it cause I wanted to be able to define a little bit more on the fly then they allowed -- like colors for the bars, font sizes of the percentages, etc...).

I think this will be the final build and I will start updating the db with releases of browsers. We'll see how the thing really loads up!

You can see it at:

Enjoy!

Freddy Goes Climbing!

I've been eyeing this 5.11b/c as a new route to work on thinking it would take several nights of working the moves out. It didn't take a couple nights. It took one time up the climb. I fell once and took a break 'cause my muscles were pumped to the max. But I made it up -- there was only one tricky spot. And no place to really chalk up -- at least not for the first 2/3 of the way up.

It was way kewl!!

And then I moved on to an unrated 5.8 (at least it's supposed to be a 5.8 -- but it is unrated at this point). Then decided I'd try a new 5.11a that they had set up. Managed to get up that one too -- again I slipped in one place -- with no easy places to chalk up. But I got the rest of the moves.

Jason did really good tonight as well -- especially since he hasn't climbed in a week. But he got up a 5.7 on the long overhanging wall. Hopefully it will do him good and he'll be back up to good 5.8's and 5.9's next week.

Anywase thats about it from me.
Talk L8tz!

Movable Type v2.5

Just installed the new version of Movable Type. It's upgrade went smoothly (only was required to copy files -- not run any scripts or anything funy like that). So everyone should now be enjoying the new version!

w00t!

On a somewhat related side-note, I think I might try designing a blogging app in vb.net as there doesn't appear to be anyone out there currently doing it. It shouldn't be too hard as there isn't terribly much to it -- we'll have to see tho. I need to finish up the oldbrowsers.org site first!

Chicken Links

Chickens are a staple of every normal human worm babys' diets. So, for people like my buddy Rex, who says you are what you eat, and since he eats Chicken for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, he is a chicken, here is a page where you can become a chicken! w00p!

http://www.quicktel.com/users/dmkeys/chicken.htm

And then for those of you who don't necessarily want to be a chicken, rather you just want to control them -- maybe you live on a farm -- maybe you have one as a pet -- maybe you want one to think it's an Ostrich -- why not learn to hypnotize them?

Neuticles

We all have pets. At least those of us that are normal. A large percentage of us have had those pets fixed. 99% of the time that means, for a male pet, loosing of their testicles. Not something any male likes doing or seeing on another male. So -- to appease your mind, next time you have a male pet getting fixed, get them neuticles! It's a must!

Experiments with Jello

I played with lasers in High School. Who didn't? They were kewl! We bounced one around the entire school (it was a small school) using lazers and a couple of magnifying glasses. Nothing as kewl as was done in Real Genius but still was fun.

We never did try playing with Jello at the same time tho. This site says it can be fun and exciting!
