My First V6

People have been asking that for a while now...
In climbing there are several different rating systems. Here in the US we use 3 rating systems depending on the type of climb. For regular climbing they have ratings that look like 5.10a -- these start at 5.1 and go through 5.15c (the latter being climbed by only one person in the world -- and many people wonder if it truly is a 5.15c...). For this type of climbing, the hardest I've done is 5.11d -- I've started working a 5.12a tho. On a regular night I can climb 5.11a fairly easily.

In bouldering they rate the climbs with a V system -- it starts at V0- and goes up to V15. A V0- is comparable to a 5.10a. A V15 has no comparable roped climb -- it would be somewhere around a 5.16 or so. They are a lot harder but also a LOT shorter.

There is also Aid routes -- you'll see ratings like A4 5.10a -- this is a way hard aid climb -- where you are actually using placed gear to stand up and climb (typically in cracks that you can't fit your fingers in -- much less a foot!).

So that still doesn't explain a lot. But here is a short video Windows Media (4.9mb) or Quicktime (for you mac freaks) (5.0mb) of the my first V6 that I completed.

*That* is a V6

I don't know why...

I finally talked to someone on IM today that I haven't talked to in AGES and AGES. Probably a year or more. We just kinda picked up where we left off.

Anywase, I don't know why it bothers me so, but her boyfriend just upped and left her about 5 months ago. I don't know why but this really just put me down in the dumps. Not like theres a whole lot I can do for her -- no words I can say that other people haven't already said. I don't know. Anywase, it's really depressed me.

Maybe it was because they seemed like a great and beautiful couple -- and I hate seeing beautiful things destroyed. Maybe it's because I feel protective of my friends. Maybe it's because I hate dealing with such hard emotions because I put up with that growing up. Maybe it's because I just don't know what to do to cheer her up. Maybe it's because gloomy people rub off on those of us who are too empathetic. Maybe it's because *I* shouldn't be feeling this way -- I should be doing my best to pick up her spirits.

Ahh well. Things will work out -- they always do.
*keeps telling himself that*

3x Thursday: 08/07/y2k+3: Vices/Habits

1. Do you have any substance vices? (cigs, caffeine, etc) Are you aware of them? Do they create problems for you? Ever want to do anything about them?
Nope.

2. Do you have any non-substance vices? (pr0n, puters, driving) Do you think they're bad? Or good?
Climbing and bicycling keep me sane and relatively stress free.

3. Are habits necessairly bad? Why or why not?
Habits can be both good and bad. If you have the habit of smoking cigs then that would have to be a bad habit. If you have a habit of brushing your teeth every night before you go to bed that would have to be a good habit.

Bonus Question for Comments: We're all creatures of habit. Got any you wish to share with the class (present or past)?
I try and follow this schedule for exercise (it rarely works out this way but you know...) Sunday: Climb & Bike Monday: Climb Tuesday: Climb Wednesday: Bike Thursday: Climb Firday: Nothing Saturday: Nothing
What I'd really like to do tho is:
Sunday: Climb & Bike
Monday: Climb
Tuesday: Climb & Bike
Wednesday: Bike
Thursday: Climb & Bike
Friday: Nothing
Saturday: Nothing

There just isn't enough hours in the day tho!
