New version of Movable Type

Just upgraded to the latest version of movable type. Seems as though they are releasing the updates like once every other week right now! This one adds some great functionality for people with MySQL installed -- only I don't. So it doesn't matter that much.

I think I also got the smtp stuff figured out so those two of you who have signed up for notifications should get notified 'bout this one!

Thats it for now -- off to clean my bike!

Notifications!

Well...
People have signed up for the notifications stuff...
Only I can't figure out how to work it! And movabletype.org is down for tonight so...
I'll puzzle over this one when I wake up tomorrow!

Short and sweet :)

Biking and Code

Had a great bike ride today. Rode up and over the hill I did on Sunday. It's about a half hour up, 2-3 minutes down, and another 20 minutes to finish the loop that I do. Only stopped once on the way up.

Hit 49Mph -- I was hoping for 50 but either my bike computer only goes up to 49 or I just seemed to top out at 49. I'm gonna try harder next time -- there was a good breeze going down so that probably factored into it. I tucked as small as I could but it just wasn't small enuf. Next time!

As for code...
I got the news page completely finished. It's early so I might get some other stuff done yet -- maybe the history section of the browsers site.

Maybe I'll just start downloading browsers! I gots a bit of work to do there!
Guess thats about it for now.

Code that Works!

Kewl!
I got the news section done. Now when I'm doing these I'm not doing the "edit" pages yet -- I figured I'm an intelligent guy -- I can do inserts into the db for a bit by hand and then develop the admin pages. Strill trying to figure out how to do that anywase.

Well I won't say the news section is *done done* -- but it pulls data from the db, displays it on the page, and all thats really left is formatting the data. It's all quite simple really.

Today pretty much sucked at work. Had a build that just didn't go well at all. The db's all built okay. It was hardware that was acting up today. Don't know why but three webservers all decided to stop working -- and after I made sure they were set up correctly and all! Then I had the sql server -- well I tried to install a windows update and tried rebooting -- only it just hung there. I think it was because of the external scsi raid (really a cluster raid) -- I ended up having to go to ATG (where the equipment is colocated) and up on the screen was a dialog box from the Dell System components saying "There are system files currently open. Press okay to continue with shutdown process" -- and that was after the remote admin software service had already stopped. *ugh*

On the positive side of things I went and climbed for just a short bit tonight. I managed to get my lazy ass up a V2 that I've been working on now for at least two weeks! I got parts of it yesterday but couldn't link it all together. But tonight it went! I got up to the top and was like "Well -- I'll just do easy traverses the rest of the night" It was a blast!

Well, I think that about wraps it up. Hope I don't have too many emergencies tomorrow as Marta (our QA Personage) is on vacation for two weeks. Emergencies are gonna be hell.

L8tz all

New Blogs!

My kid brother asked for a site tonight and I mentioned blogs to him. So we set him up one. It's at http://squeeek.com/wieerdo/

I've also added a couple other links under that area. And in the Wierd links section I got the sites that I've already sent out in emails put up with the correct dates on 'em.

Went climbing again tonight -- finished a V2 I've been working on -- but was unable to do it from the start *argh*. Climbed all the other V2's I could climb tho. My wrist is hurtin' so I think if I climb tomorrow I'll take it easy.

Build tomorrow at work *ucky* It'll be a fun 10-12 hour work day (or not much fun) We're jumping 8 versions in our components. Thats HUMONGOUS for us. Hopefully things will go okies and I'll get out of there at a decent time.

L8tz all!

Climbing

Went climbing tonight. I'm burnt out now...
I climbed a couple of V2's, several V1's and all the V0's in the bouldering area. That comes out to about 20ish climbs so I'm just beat.

Started work on the news section tonight for oldbrowsers.org -- haven't gotten very far at all but it's started.

Short message tonight -- but I'm just beat.

dotNET Trials and Tribulations

Yay!!!!!!!!!

I finally got somewhere with my .NET stuff. See -- I registered this domain called oldbrowsers.org a while back. I decided that it was goign to be my first venture into .NET and let me say -- it's been slow going.

That is until today.

I was running into all sorts of problems passing variables around from page to page and processing the requests in a decent fashion. Well -- I've gotten over my hurdles. I've got a default page (aspx) that calls a header ascx file. That figures out what sections are enabled form the db, it then builds the navigation based on that section.

From there it decides where you were headed (what section you clicked on) and picks a sub ascx (thats user control).

I've gotten all that working now (yay!!). Now I've just got to get the actual sections to start working. It's been slow going but I think I'm over my bigger hurdles and can start working on the fun stuff.

Anyway -- today we went to the ocean -- we drove way far up Highway 1 cause our normal beach looked like there was tons of people there. So we drove up past Goat Beach (with Goat rock). Ended up at this way obscure cove that was incredibly beutiful. On our way back we saw TONS of seals at Goat Beach -- I took pictures and we'll put them up shortly. It'll be the picture of all the things that look like sticks.

It's also good to know where the climbs are out here -- there are supposed to be some great bouldering spots at Goat Beach -- so now I know where it is!

I also did a bike ride -- up and over a little hill (well 4 miles up -- 1 mile down). Hit a new high speed on my bike -- 49mph! I think with a little more balance I could hit 54 to 55. I was also pretty tired up at the top. Stopped three times on my way up. I need to get back down to one stop on the way up. Then hopefully be able to do it a couple times (in a loop). It's about 10 miles total.

I'm trying to get in shape to go do a century close to my birthday next year (in Solvang). I hope to have my road bike finished next month. I've got the frame and handlebars. Just got to get the rest now!

Guess thats about it for today!
